Friendship’s Day Magic!

August 2, 2009

First of all, a very very Happy Friendships Day to all you folks out there!

This is one of those special days where old friendships are revived & newer friendships are strengthened; where loose ties are mended and spats are forgotten.

Yeah… its a special day!

Facebook is buzzing with friendships day quizzes while Twitter seems full to the brim; Vodafone & AT & T must be laughing their way to the bank (courtesy: friendship day SMS’s).

But amidst all this hoopla, there’s some magic! And we’d like to spread the magic with a simple trick.

Yes, a simple trick through which you can express your love for your friends or for anyone who you think is ‘worth it’.

I call it: THE FRIENDS FOREVER TRICK!1

1. Take a currency note and as shown in the picture, attach two ordinary looking paper clips as shown.

The position of the note and the clips should be exactly as shown. (Practice before actual performance)

2. Hold the two ends of the currency note above and now carefully pull them in the opposite directions.2

Voila!

The two clips have  magically linked together!

Well, LIFEism promises a twist every time and this time, this trick too has some learning.

The two clips are you and your pals. The currency note is ‘life’.

No matter how far life pulls you away from your friends, there should always be a strong bond that binds you together! That’s what I call- FRIENDS FOREVER!

So today, just go out and reminisce about the good ol’ days with your folks and show them this trick. The tears that might roll down cheeks could be yours too! 🙂

DO PASS THIS TRICK ON TO YOUR FRIENDS AND SPREAD THE MAGIC!!!

HAPPY FRIENDSHIPS DAY!

Lessons from a DOG

July 19, 2009

LIFEism talks about simple yet profound truths to make you a smarter & wiser person.

Today, how about we learn something from mans best friend?

They have a language of their own.
It’s called ‘bark’. And I’m darn sure it makes a mark.

May I have your attention? LESSONS FROM A DOG:

– When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body

– Run, romp and play daily

– When loved ones come home, always run to greet them (…don’t lick though)

– Eat with enthusiasm (eat human food, not pedigree)

– Take naps and stretch before rising

– Let others know when they’ve invaded your space

– Avoid biting when a simple growl will do (bite only if you have doggy or bitchy instincts)

– When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently

– Delight in the simple joys of a long walk

And

– Be loyal

Like we say, there’s great learning even in the simplest of things. You jusmart, ehst got to take notice.
LIFEism notices. We promised you the twist, didn’t we?

Please don’t stop the music!

July 4, 2009

The king of pop is dead. He always believed in living life to the fullest and said – Please don’t stop the music.

Rihanna hasn’t paid me to promote her song or her album. If that’s what you’re thinking, you’re wrong!

If you think that its one of my favorites, then you’re right.

But its a favorite not just because its got good music or its got some beautiful people that make you drool. It’s a favorite because besides making you want to get up & dance, it reminds us of one very important aspect of life, an aspect that most of us forget or miss or fail to pay attention towards.

And what is it?

Its our definition of MUSIC! Let me clear the air…

Besides good music itself, what is it that’s ‘music to your ears?’

– What is/are the things that give you maximum joy/happiness?

– What do you enjoy doing the most in times of leisure?

– What’s you definition of ‘fun’?

Have fun!

Have fun!

Whatever it is, define it well and JUST DO IT!

Life’s short and highly unpredictable. In this fast-paced rat-race, we often forget to just chill out as the overwhelming pace of life just consumes us & leaves us with no time or energy to have fun.

So whenever you get the opportunity to have fun, shed your inhibitions and go have a blast!

“PLEASE, please don’t stop the music!’

Like I said, this songs got much more to it than what meets the eye 😉

M.J. knew it too…

(For those of you who haven’t heard the song & for those of you who love it- here goes)

Michael Jackson: The man who (moon)walked the Earth

June 26, 2009

The king of pop is dead.

King of Pop

King of Pop

Hard to believe, but at times, the truth hurts.

Probably the most revered, illustrious & memorable chapter in the history of the United States has come to an end.

A lot has been, can be and will be said about Michael Jackson’s name, fame, success, aura, etc. Countless hours will be spent in arguing about whether or not he molested children, whether he was into substance abuse, etc

There are opinions galore. Coz everyone likes talking about someone as famous as god!

Yes, M.J. was if not more, but definitely as famous as god himself.

So while the media & the rest of the world debate over his life, let’s reflect over his contributions to this world and to your life.

– Music is the fuel of the soul and who better to make the world realize this than the king of pop himself. His compositions, which cut across linguistic, cultural and religious barriers, have been instrumental in developing a close knit community of music lovers all across the globe. Listen to – ‘Black or White’ and know for yourself.

M.J.

M.J.

– The man who was accused of acts against humanity was one of the single largest donors of all time to the cause of humanity itself. Michael Jackson set up The Heal the World Foundation in 1992. The foundation focuses on children aiming for their safe and healthy development to be the world’s priority. It aims to make the world aware of the rights and needs of all children around the world, also to help improve the world we live in, without violence and free of diseases. Listen to – ‘We are the world’.

– For those who believe that life does not offer a second chance, think again. This very man bounced back on innumerable occasions, be it his skin disorders or his burnt scalp, and be it false allegations or some vested interests. Listen to – ‘They don’t care about us!’

– Whichever genre of music you listen to today, chances are majority of them have derived inspiration from this superstar’s works. His all time famous albums like Thriller, Bad, Dangerous, Blood on the dance floor are truly Invincible and will continue to inspire, thrill and entertain humans for generations to come. He was the first man to make use of both, his splendid mastery in music and dance & cutting-edge technology in movie making. Listen to the all time record smashing – ‘Thriller’.

The Moon-walker!

The Moon-walker!

– And finally, like none can forget Einstein’s contribution to Physics, like Dr. Fleming gave the world penicillin; like the Wright brothers gave wings to the first airplane, this man gave dancing the epic ‘moonwalk’.

He’s defined the sort of music we hear today. He’s the reason why millions have enjoyed partying and dancing and grooving to the sound of music. He’s given us countless reasons to enjoy life.

His concerts which are due to begin on July the 13th should still take place as a mark of respect to this great performer that (moon)walked the Earth.

And they should take place because he’s always entertained people throughout his life. And his music will continue to do so – forever.

So let’s not focus on what he did right and what he did wrong. Let’s just give credit to this man for giving us some memorable tunes to rock to. Coz that’s what the truth is.

But its the truth they say, that hurts at times; that –

The king of pop is dead.
Long live the king.

(The next post is a tribute to what Michael Jackson always believed in. Join our Facebook group/ follow us on twitter/ get RSS feeds and stay updated with LIFEism)

Long live the king...

Long live the king...

Instant ‘action’ for long-lasting change

June 10, 2009

‘There’s a difference between knowing and realizing‘ was a thought that I left you with in the last post. For those who haven’t read it yet (and should before reading any further) , click here now.

We discussed that- ‘Once the REALIZATION dawns upon you, half your

Action

Action

miseries are solved’
When you realize that there’s something wrong happening in your life or you feel that slight discomfort, you’ve crossed half the bridge.

Questioning your beliefs is like pinching yourself to assure that you’re not dreaming. It brings about more objectivity to your life rather than the subjective biases that we all very easily bring in (because of our lackadaisical mind) without ‘realization’. And yet most of us think we know it all!

So now that you’ve crossed half the bridge & are raring to get to the other end, I give you 4 simple action reminders.
Notice I call them ‘action reminders‘ and not ‘action steps’ as they lead to action and at the same time act as alarm clocks to remind you, at each step in life, about the importance of applying them.

1. Awareness
At each passing instance, be aware of your thoughts. As per the law of manifestation, your thoughts lead to feelings which lead to actions which in turn yield proportionate results. In short, what you sow is what you will reap. Be aware & realize what the dominant thoughts doing the rounds in that 3-kg mass at the top are. Awareness i.e. realization is the key step to making long lasting changes.

An easy way to do this is to wear a wrist band which signifies and reminds you to constantly think positive/beneficial thoughts. If you notice that your dominant beliefs are not helping you or are defying logic (you will know this by the reactions/behavior of people around you) just pinch yourself or deny yourself of something that you need. eg. Skip lunch or miss a class if you have to. I know its harsh but its punishments that make us more vigilant & more aware  about our responsibilities.

2. Count your blessings
I cannot undermine the importance of this one at all!

More often than not, you will find yourself fretting over the things you don’t have or the way you are not rather than the wonderful things you possess and the beautiful life in and around you. Tell me if I’m wrong!

So, for a better belief mechanism, count your blessings. Count all the good things in your life rather than the not-so-good things. One, you will feel better. Two, you will start thinking better thoughts. Three, you will come to believe that there’s more good to life than there’s bad. And four, you will thank me! Do this from this very moment.

3. Morning Musings
What’s the first thing you do when you get up each morning (or afternoon)?
Without getting into too many details, when you want to change a certain aspect of your thinking and your belief system, mornings are the best time to do so.

You’re alert, fresh and full of energy. Contemplate & reflect on what you’re doing wrong and what area of your ‘vision’ and ‘beliefs’ require refurbishment. Then act upon it at every passing moment.

4. Anne Frank 😉
Last but not the least, learn from what Anne Frank did. She wrote about all that happened in her life. She wrote about all that could have happened in her life. She’s a legend.

But becoming a legend is not on our agenda yet!
Write about your good points and bad points. Write about steps that you take to capitalize on the plus points and steps that you take to do away with your minus points.
Write about anything that you perceive through your way of thinking and then read it from an objective angle. Make sense of it…
If you find it difficult to maintain a physical diary due to the presence of gossip mongers around you or nagging souls, maintain an online one that’s password protected. But write. Because only when you can see the change you want to be will you actually change or at least try to.

These were just some small yet powerful ways for tweaking your belief system and your habits.

If you have any more that can help us all, please do comment below. After all, we all would like to be slightly better, right?

It only takes an instant…

June 10, 2009

Hi folks!
In the last post, I boldly stated:
‘It only takes an instant to change your belief and hence your life!’

Yeah, ‘An Instant’…

No, I ain’t fooling you. I haven’t even cracked my thick skull yet.
Nooo…

I’m letting you in on a secret. Shhh…
A secret that has the power to change your life forever, only if give it some deep thought. (You can share the secret too)

So for those of you who have read about the SPEC-tacular truth of life and also some of its forms (those who haven’t, read them before proceeding), I’d like to ask you some questions.

– Is there any one instance in your life when you felt frustrated about your circumstances, felt cheated, defeated or just felt plain ‘sick’ of things?
– What prompted you to feel that way?
– Did you feel as though a leech was sucking the happiness/peace out of your life?

Oh I can bet a million bucks that each one of us has surely felt that way more than once (unless your Buddha off-course!)

– But heck, what do we do?
Either blame our ‘luck’ or curse someone or accept defeat or do jack shit about it…. or at times, rare times – ponder.

Did I say ponder?

Yes, its this ‘pondering’ which is often put on the back-burner. But this is normal as we humans are accustomed to focusing on the ‘what-has-happened’ rather than the ‘what-can-happen’. This is because of our mind and the experiment that its unconsciously performing!

So what is that ‘instant’ that can change your belief and your life & what’s so special (that I need to write so much about it?)

Its called – REALIZATION.

Simple word, simple meaning,  HUGE implications!

Realization

Realization

As it is said by some old wisecrack- ‘Once the REALIZATION dawns upon you, half your miseries are solved’
When you realize that there’s something wrong happening in your life or you feel that slight discomfort, you’ve crossed half the bridge.

This realization is nothing but you questioning your beliefs and your thought process. Its nothing but you asking yourself- ‘X is X because I thought this way & Y will be Z because I believe it will’
How often (or rather do we ever) question our beliefs?

Mr. P says Nahhh, only dumb jerks do that. I’m Purrfecto!

Knock-knock- Reality check: I’d like to meet that dumb jerk & not you Mr.Purrfecto!

Because that person has ‘realized’ that there’s more to all things than what meets the eye.
Questioning your beliefs is like pinching yourself to assure that you’re not dreaming. It brings about more objectivity to your life rather than the subjective biases that we all very easily bring in (because of our lackadaisical mind) without ‘realization’. And yet most of us think we know it all!

‘There is a difference between hearing and listening. That’s exactly the difference between knowing and realizing. Think about it…’

Like I said somewhere above (if you read carefully enough)-
‘Once the REALIZATION dawns upon you, half your miseries are solved’

The other half is the ACTION part which can truly transform your life. These include 4 action steps which you can implement instantly and notice the changes ohh-so-soon!

This article had the waffle cone. The ice-cream comes to you next week! Till then hang on & spread the word!

Adios…

(Our Facebook group still awaits those who haven’t joined yet!)

The most SPEC-tacular truth (contd…)

May 10, 2009

‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, either way you’re right!’

‘There’s nothing right or wrong, thinking makes it so!

Hello folks and a warm welcome to all to the ‘new-look’ LIFEism.
For those of you who have just stumbled upon this blog, I recommend to read the previous post here before reading ahead. The regular readers and subscribers too can have a dekko.

You see, I repeated the 2 quotes with which I ended the last post. And I did this on purpose to remind you of how profound they are. They relate to the way we think about things and believe in events and instances. I reiterated them because this single,all-pervading & powerful law of belief manifests into our reality at every passing moment or instance. And that’s a cardinal rule/ a fundamental truth/ an undeniable fact of life- BELIEVE IT OR NOT!

Belief is an abstract which is tested in various forms of which some are quite famous (or should I say, infamous)

Tarot

Tarot

TAROT:
Tarot cards are utilized primarily for divinatory purposes.
Tarot card reading revolves around the belief that the cards can be used to gain insight into the current and possible future situations of the subject.

Some believe they are guided by a spiritual force while others believe the cards help them tap into a collective unconscious or their own creative, brainstorming subconscious.

The bottomline is that tarot card readers are skilled to get your thoughts out in the open and they will make you hear and see what you strongly believe in. Its a tact, mind you!
I personally had a heated discussion with a tarot card reader in Germany & made him spill the beans, which are strongly intertwined with your belief system (if anyone’s interested in getting the inside scoop of what transpired, mail in at lifeismworld@hotmail.com or just let me know any way)

NUMEROLOGY:
Numerology is any of the many systems, traditions or beliefs in a mystical or esoteric relationship between numbers and physical objects or living things.

Today, numerology is often not associated with numbers, but with the occult (supernatural forces, not apparent to the senses nor obvious to the intelligence & beyond ordinary understanding), alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts.

I too have been a foxed by Numerology and have believed in it.

There was a time when some supposedly divine individual insisted that I add an extra U to my name and go from Varun to VarUun. I gave in and believed that it would give me the proverbial ‘midas touch’. Honestly, I don’t know if it worked or not, but I had certain problems wherein my driving licence and passport names didn’t quite match…

So, the whole point is things may work for you or against you. And this solely depends on how you perceive things/events/situations to be and how you respond to them.

Whatever it may be, I can guarantee you that it only takes an instant to change your belief and hence your life! And to learn that teeny-weeny secret, wait for the next post.

I repeat-
‘It only takes an instant to change your belief and hence your life!’

Till then, hang on…
